About CREA
The word Crea in Spanish means to create. CREA Institute (Costa Rica Education and Adventure) believes that great change is created in the in the world by exposing young minds to new cultures, making them aware of the impact of their actions and giving them the confidence and the knowledge to make changes in their life. CREA Institute believes that by sharing the beauty of the natural world, the next step in appreciation is going to be conservation.
CREA Institute is a place-based, experiential learning center that focuses on providing the highest quality programming for international student groups. Each program is customized to meet the needs of visiting students, while maintaining our core values: to provide an authentic, hands-on experience using the unique natural and cultural aspects of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. The Costa Rica Education and Adventure Institute strives to bring enlightenment to the effects of humans on our fragile ecosystem and instill a sense of personal responsibility in our participants.
Our philosophy around science exploration is that students will lead meaningful research projects based on their natural curiosity. Our inquiry-based science projects create authentic learning experiences and real world connections. Students are given the tools and the environment to nurture their budding ideas and to satisfy their innate curiosity. We strive to teach to the whole person and help foster an appreciation for science, culture and adventure.
CREA is fortunate to be based in an area of the world that offers endless outdoor activities and we have the weather that allows us to appreciate it. Our campus, Monte Fresco, with its many trails, river access, ocean views and gardens, gives one the feeling of being on a private oasis. Yet, we are 5 minutes from the busy beach town of Tamarindo.
Monte Fresco is on a 17 acre property that at one time was a finca and a bed and breakfast. We have a main house, an apartment and a classroom. We will house the students in gender separate spaces. Almost all our rooms have an ocean view. We also have a swimming pool for relaxing during some of our down time and river access that we can explore.
The Costa Rica Education and Adventure Institute works directly with the La Paz Community School to bring a cultural exchange and share learning ideas. A portion of each participant’s tuition goes directly to the La Paz Scholarship Fund. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to give back to the community through a Service Learning Project.
